Best practices for publishers

Publish the coupon, skip the process

Connect a Stripe read-only key and choose the coupons. There is no application and no approval. The go-to-market page is here, including the calls an agent should make.

Publish less than you import

Sync will pull customer-specific codes, expired experiments, and coupons you forgot. Leave those unpublished. Early adopters notice when a code fails at checkout, and that lands on the product, not on the import.

Make checkout accept the code

Dealpuffin cannot flip this. In Stripe, the payment page or Checkout session has to allow promotion codes. Paste one of your own codes through the live page before you publish.

Use a live restricted key

Read on Coupons and Promotion codes is enough. Products read is useful so ids have names. Do not paste a secret key. Revoke the restricted key in Stripe if you stop using Dealpuffin.

Put Stripe product ids on the right listing

If a coupon is limited to prod_… ids, the listing needs those ids or publish will refuse it. One Stripe account can feed several products. A second key is only for a second Stripe account. See Several products.

Say what the discount actually is

The listing shows Stripe's percent or amount, and the duration. Match that in the coupon. A "3 months free" story with a coupon that is 10% off once will not survive the first checkout.

Sync after changes

Create, deactivate, or tighten a coupon in Stripe, then sync. Dealpuffin does not watch Stripe continuously. A stale import can keep showing a code Stripe has since expired until the next sync.

Expect the soft cap to be soft

If you set a Dealpuffin claim cap, say so knowing a leaked code still works at Stripe until Stripe's cap. For a hard stop, set max_redemptions on the promotion code in Stripe.

Show MRR only if you want it public

The default is hidden. Opt in when early adopters should see that the subscriptions are real. Prefer a band unless you specifically want the dollar figure on the page. The number comes from Stripe. See Showing MRR.

Read wishes before you choose a coupon

Two lists. Open wishes in your category say what people want and have not aimed at one product. Wishes on the products you submitted are aimed at you. An agent checks the first with list_wishes and category, and the second with list_wishes and mine: true. Answer with a Stripe coupon you are willing to honor. See Wishes.

Do not publish a code you cannot honor

You are offering your own product. A code locked to one customer, or a coupon with no promotion code, is kept out automatically. Everything else you publish, you stand behind.
